As
a forum for the exchange of information in the field of cancer
immunology, Cancer Immunity
provides rapid publication of original research, retrospectives,
methods, and opinion pieces.
Cancer
Immunity publishes papers in the following categories:
-
Articles describing the results of original laboratory
and clinical research.
-
Reviews providing critical and balanced views of
specific topics.
-
Commentaries discussing papers recently published
in Cancer Immunity
or other journals. In addition, Cancer
Immunity welcomes Commentaries dealing with
any matter of importance to tumor immunology and immunotherapy.
-
Reflections presenting a personal perspective on
the origins and history of the field of tumor immunology
by leaders in the field. Reflections are invited by the
editors.
Reader's comments on papers are compiled and linked to the original
publication to further scientific discussion. Please refer to
the "Comment(s)" feature in the original publication
to see how to submit such comments.
Please
read all guidelines carefully and follow them strictly to ensure
that the processing and publication of your manuscript is as efficient
as possible. For further guidance, please do not hesitate to contact
the Editorial Office.
Editorial
Policies
Prior Publication
It
is a condition of publication that manuscripts submitted to this
journal have not been published and will not be simultaneously
submitted or published elsewhere. Reporting of findings to the
mass media may also preclude a paper from publication. Exception
will be made for abstracts and oral presentations from scientific
meetings published as part of the meeting's proceedings. If previously
published tables, illustrations, or more than 200 words of text
are to be included, the copyright holder's written permission
must be obtained for online use and must accompany the accepted
manuscript.
Conflicts
of Interest
Any relationships, financial or otherwise, that might lead
to a conflict of interest must be disclosed to the Editorial Office
at the time of submission.
Materials
and Data Deposition
Submission of manuscripts describing unique research materials
(e.g. chemical and biological reagents, databases) implies that
these will be made available for noncommercial purposes to all
qualified investigators upon request. GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ database
accession numbers for new sequence data must be supplied for publication.
Clinical
Trial Registration
Clinical trial information must be deposited into a public
clinical trial registry before the onset of patient enrollment.
Please refer to the International Committee of Medical Journal
Editors guidelines at http://www.icmje.org/publishing_10register.html.
Copyright
Authors will retain the copyright to any material they publish
in the journal. Copyright to articles published in the journal
will be attributed to the corresponding author as the authors'
representative (unless otherwise requested). While retaining copyright,
authors agree to acknowledge Cancer
Immunity as the original place of publication in
all future publications and as the copyright holder to the collective
work. For the copyright terms of use, please refer to the journal's
copyright notice.
Author
Self-Archiving Policy
Authors can post material submitted to the journal on personal
web sites or institutional repositories after publication provided
that Cancer Immunity
is acknowledged as the original place of publication. A number
of funding agencies (NIH, HHMI, UKPMC funders) now require that
the research they fund be deposited in a public registry. As Cancer
Immunity participates in PubMed Central, authors
need not submit the final peer-reviewed manuscript themselves
to the appropriate registry upon acceptance of their manuscript
for publication.
Liability
No liability is accepted for loss or damage of materials submitted.
Authors should keep a copy of all files.
Manuscript
Submission
Cancer Immunity
accepts manuscripts contributed directly by Members of the Academy of Cancer Immunology
and welcomes manuscripts by non-Members.
Manuscripts
contributed by Members of the Academy of Cancer Immunology
are accepted upon submission. It is the Member's responsibility
to have the manuscript reviewed by two colleagues outside his
or her institution before it is submitted. The Member should provide
the names of the reviewers at the time of submission.
Non-Members
of the Academy may submit manuscripts to a Member
of the Academy OR to the Editorial Office.
Manuscripts not submitted directly to a Member will be assigned
to one by the Editorial Office. Authors may include suggestions
of Members whose expertise would make them suitable editors. Authors should also provide names of reviewers to exclude for conflicts of interests. Whether
a manuscript is submitted to a Member, or assigned to a Member
by the Editorial Office, the Member will be responsible for having
the manuscript reviewed by two individuals knowledgeable in the
area. Reviewers may or may not be Academy Members.
Please
review the scope of the journal to ensure
that the journal is the appropriate place to publish your work.
Manuscripts will be evaluated based on the contribution of original
material that is likely to be of interest to readers involved
in cancer immunology. Editorial comments will be communicated
to the contributor at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
Articles
contributed directly by Members of the Academy are distinguished
in the journal as "Contributed by". Articles by non-Member authors
are distinguished in the journal as "Communicated by" [the editor
responsible for the review process].
A
non-Member manuscript that is rejected by the journal may not
be resubmitted by a Member.
Preparation
DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS (PDF)
Manuscripts should be submitted via e-mail to cancerimmunity@cancerimmunity.org. In exceptional
cases, the initial manuscript submission may be in hard-copy format
- please contact the Editorial Office
for instructions.
Manuscripts should be submitted as a single text file containing
the text and figure legends. Text files in RTF (rich text format) or Microsoft Word DOC
format are preferred. Other standard word processing file formats
will also be accepted. Manuscript text should be in Arial or Helvetica font face, size 12 pt, and double-spaced.
Each table and figure must be submitted
as a separate file, and labeled correctly. Tables should be submitted as a Microsoft Word DOC, or as images. All images should
be in TIFF format and have a minimum resolution of 900
pixels/inch for line graphs and tables and 600 pixels/inch
for other image types. Please ensure that black and white
figures and color figures are in Grayscale and RGB (red, green,
blue) modes respectively. Figures or tables in different formats
must be supplied as high-quality prints.
Please provide the corresponding
author's name, the file names, the operating system (Mac or PC),
as well as the compression and word processing applications used.
All electronically submitted files are to be scanned by the authors

are free of viruses. If there is any future concern by the authors
regarding possible virus presence in previously submitted material,
the Editorial Office is to be notified promptly.
Manuscripts should
be sent either as e-mail attachments or on PC- or Mac-formatted
CDs or DVDs. Please note that disks will not be returned. If files
total more than 4.5 GB, they should be placed on a FTP server
to be accessed by the Editorial Office.
All
submissions must be accompanied by copies of any papers cited
in the text that are accepted but not yet published, any manuscripts
submitted but not yet accepted, and any related material in press
or submitted elsewhere (by all co-authors). Please indicate if
it is a resubmission and, if so, the name of the member of the
Editorial Board to whom it was originally submitted (if not the
Editorial Office). All contact with the corresponding author will
be by e-mail.
Style
and Organization
Language
Manuscripts are to be written in clear and concise English. Spelling
should conform to either English or American usage and should
be consistent throughout the paper (e.g. tumour, leukaemia, centre
or tumor, leukemia, center).
Length
While there are no specific limitations regarding the length of
the manuscript or the number of figures and tables, authors are
strongly encouraged to be succinct.
Units
The International System of Units (SI) (http://www.nist.gov/pml/pubs/sp811/index.cfm)
should be used throughout the manuscript and URLs should conform
to the standard format (e.g. http://www.ebi.ac.uk/).
Superscripts, Subscripts, Symbols
To facilitate the processing of the manuscript for publication,
authors are requested to format superscripts and subscripts using
the Font SUPERSCRIPT and SUBSCRIPT options and symbols using the
SYMBOL Font. The use of symbols in the text is restricted to:
- Greek
characters
- mathematical
symbols, including ± , < , >
- the
symbols * , % , ® , TM
, © , @ , ° and
- 'single'
and "double" quotation marks.
Sections
All manuscripts submitted MUST have a Title page. Articles
and Reviews MUST have an Abstract.
Section
and subsection headings should be on separate lines and in bold.
Title Page
The publication type (Article, Review, Commentary or Reflection)
should be followed by the title of the manuscript, the full
first and last names of all the authors, their affiliations, mailing addresses,
and e-mail addresses. If an author does not have an e-mail address,
please provide a fax number. The title of the manuscript should
be short, specific and informative. Superscript numbers should
be used to designate institutional affiliations and a superscript
asterisk (*) used to indicate joint first authorship. Please
do NOT provide a running title or list of keywords. Keywords
from the Medical Subject Headings from Index Medicus will be
assigned by the Editorial Office.
Abstract
Summarize for a broad scientific audience. The Abstract should
consist of a single paragraph not exceeding 250 words. Do NOT
cite references.
Articles
should also contain the following sections organized in the order
shown. Reviews, Commentaries and Reflections
need only include relevant sections.
Introduction
Assume that the reader is knowledgeable in the field.
Results
Present results in logical sequence in the text, tables, and
illustrations. Data should be presented once, either in tables
or figures, but not both. Emphasize or summarize only important
observations.
Discussion
Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the
conclusions that follow from them. Relate the observations to
other relevant studies and discuss the implications of the findings
and their limitations.
Abbreviations
Refer to the standard abbreviations
used without definition in the journal and list nonstandard
abbreviations used five or more times in the text. Define these
where first mentioned in the text and do not use them in the
title of the manuscript.
Acknowledgements
List any individuals who have contributed to the manuscript,
along with sources of funding and material.
References
Please restrict references to published work, papers in press
and Internet/Web sites closely related to the presented work.
These should be cited sequentially in the text and enclosed in
parentheses, e.g. (1, 2, 5-7). Personal communications, unpublished
results, manuscripts submitted or in preparation should be cited
as such in the text and enclosed in parentheses, i.e. (unpublished
results). List references in numerical order corresponding to
the order of citation in the text. References should follow
the Vancouver format (http://www.icmje.org/index.html).
All authors should be listed for each reference. Standard
MEDLINE abbreviations for the names of journals should be used
and can be found at the National Center for Biotechnology Information
(NCBI) Web site journal browser at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nlmcatalog/journals.
Identify abstracts and letters as such. Provide the complete
first and last page numbers for each reference.
The PubMed
ID (PMID) for references to published articles must be included
in the final version to enable direct linking of references
to PubMed. To find the PubMed ID for individual references,
you can use the NCBI Single Citation Matcher at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/pubmedutils/citmatch
(entering the date of publication and the name of the first
or last author usually suffices to locate the reference). To
find the PubMed ID for a series of references, use the NCBI
Batch Citation Matcher at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/pubmedutils/batchcitmatch.

Materials and Methods
A statement that all experiments were performed in compliance
with institutional guidelines and relevant laws and identifying
the committee(s) that have approved the experiments must be
included for papers reporting experiments involving live animals
or human subjects. Papers presenting research involving human
subjects must also include a statement that informed consent
was obtained from each subject or subject's guardian. The trial
registration number for the trial being reported, as well as
for any other trials mentioned in the manuscript, should be
provided so that a link to the registry can be provided whenever
possible. Names and addresses of suppliers of uncommon reagents
or instruments should be provided. Refer to published methods
wherever possible, and clearly describe new or substantially
modified methods.
Contact
The complete mailing address, telephone number, fax number and
e-mail address of the corresponding author should also be provided.
Unless otherwise requested by the corresponding author, this
information will appear online, with the e-mail address encrypted.
Figure
Legends
List legends in the order of appearance. Provide a brief descriptive
title in bold and a detailed legend. Explain any abbreviations
in tables using footnotes indicated by lower case letters (e.g.
a, b, c). ALL symbols used in figures, other than accepted symbols,
must be described using words in the legend or defined in an
inset within the figure.
Tables and Figures
Number tables and figures consecutively, but separately, with
Arabic numerals. Tables and figures are to be submitted separately
from the text at the desired printed size, with clearly legible
numbers, letters, and symbols. Each table or figure should be
no larger than 20.3 cm (8 inches) wide and 25.4 cm (10 inches)
high. The use of color is encouraged where it improves clarity,
e.g. for comparative sequence data. Avoid wide variation in type
size within a single table or figure. Figures and tables will
NOT be redrawn or relabeled.
Tables
should have a brief descriptive title. Any additional relevant
comments should be included as footnotes to the table. Units of
measure should be included in parentheses in column headings or
axes; units should not change within a column or axis.
Please
ensure that figures do NOT have a frame. Composite figures should
be labeled A, B, C and submitted as one figure. Any lettering
or text should be in proportion with the rest of the figure. Use
boldface type for axis labels and for labels in composite figures.
For graphs, use powers of 10 for scales with large or small numbers.
Supplemental Data
Supplemental Data may take the form of supporting figures, tables,
datasets, databases, and videos. Whenever possible, supplemental
data file formats should be platform-independent and proprietary
software-independent. A brief description of the data should be
provided for each supplemental data file. Please contact the Editorial Office
to discuss the submission and format of such data.
Accepted
Manuscripts
Upon acceptance for publication, the corresponding author must
submit the text of the final version electronically to
the Editorial Office. If
necessary, the corresponding author will be asked to supply all
figures and complex tables as high-quality, glossy prints so that
they can be scanned. The manuscript, figures and tables should
include any modifications requested by the reviewers. No charges
are levied for handling of the manuscript.
Written
permission to cite accepted or submitted manuscripts along with
verification that they have been accepted for publication must
be provided by the authors. Written permission and confirmation
of accuracy from the source of any personal communications cited
in the paper must also be provided. Statements that the manuscript
has been read and approved by all the authors, that each author
believes that the manuscript represents honest work, and that
the contents of the manuscript have not been previously published,
must accompany the manuscript. Sequence and structural data must
be deposited with the appropriate data bank prior to publication,
and the corresponding entries must be provided for inclusion in
the published manuscript. Clinical trial registry number(s) must
be provided for all clinical trails cited in the manuscript.
The
corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the
other authors about revisions and final approval of the proofs.
Unless otherwise requested, copyright to the material published
in the journal will be attributed to the corresponding author.
